Set Design & Models

Here you will see a selection of the scenic art I have done over the years, models and miniatures, CAD modelling and drafting and hand drafting.

I assembled a miniature ‘Florist Shop’ kit in 2022 and used my model making skills to modify some of the finishes and add a layer of realism to the final result. I love modelling and making miniatures, but previously I have only ever made models for theatre design. This was a very freeing experience, without the need to make many design choices, it became a practise of execution rather than expressing a design. I will admit the absence of a scale was a fun challenge.

Florist Shop

My biggest qualm for this model was the floors and walls. The kit wanted me to stick paper printed with tile and brick into place, but I knew I could make something with real texture so instead I used foam sheets, air hardening clay and paint to create tile floors, cobblestone and moss ground and brick walls. I also used scenic art skills to render the walls and add a mossy or algae-like finish to the walls and glass.

Photos of the work I did for Jon Bowling a set builder and designer located in Tasmania, in 2018. I worked with a small team on this production, alongside two builders and two set decorators. I was there for work experience as the scenic artist.
